In Reverence to our Ancestors
At the center of the logo, the Petroglyphs embody and represent the devotion of our ancestors to prayer and respect for the Natural World. Through the Petroglyphs we are reminded of the work done before us, and we realize that we too are building a foundation for future generations. These etchings signify a concept of a new beginning and speak of the many sacrifices the Holy People have made for all relations of Mother Earth.
Our Medicines like the Sage, the Smoke, and the Eagle Feather are gifts from our Creator and represent our Creator's benevolence towards humanity.
Encircling the center, the Cloud Nation appears in the four sacred colors of the Lakota People and sits in the four cardinal directions, reflecting the inter-tribal relations within the SAGE Council.
The outer circle appears in yellow and represents the pollen from Corn. Corn is sacred. It has never failed to yield sustenance and support life. Its pollen has the ability to grasp and carry our prayers to the Natural World, continuing the cycle of life.
The mountains denote the importance of water, our first medicine, and the never-ending circle of life. Like the Bear, our strongest guardian, the mountains also represent our responsibility to care for and protect our Mother.
The Eagles, loyal in all aspects of their lives, carry our prayers to the Creator.
