RECKLESS DEVELOPMENT: 1) the act of promoting and enabling development in an uncontrolled manner that does not consider long-term consequences. 2) Indebting current and future taxpayers to support the business ventures of wealthy developers at the expense of lower income communities.

SAGE Council has seen Albuquerque's City Government make the majority of its decisions in favor of wealthy developers even when those projects would not benefit the local Albuquerque residents.

We examined campaign contributions for city-wide elections and in most cases the campaign contributions came from Sprawl developers, their relatives and their related businesses. These politicians support sprawling development projects which jeopardize Albuquerque’s well-being.

The relationship between developers and local political leaders is very real. In fact the Albuquerque's Mayor Martin Chavez has been caught in several scandals with Westside developers.
